Imodium 2 mg, 6 capsules, Johnson & Johnson

Imodium 2 mg capsules are a remedy that helps restore the normal rhythm of the digestive system.

• Treats symptoms of non-infectious diarrhea
• Restores the normal rhythm of your digestive system.

Composition:

• The active substance is loperamide hydrochloride
• One capsule contains 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride
• The other ingredients are: Capsule content: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, talc and magnesium stearate
• Cap: yellow iron oxide (E 172), , indigotine (E 132), titanium dioxide (E 171) and gelatin
• Body: black iron oxide (E 172), indigotine (E 132), erythrosine (E 127), titanium dioxide (E 171) and gelatin.

How to use:

• Initial: 2 capsules, taken orally.Then: 1 capsule after each diarrheal episode, no more than 8 capsules per day
• Adults and children over 6 years old
• Children: 2 capsules orally, then one capsule after each diarrheal stool, no more than 3 capsules per day
• Imodium 2 mg capsules should not be administered to children under 6 years of age, during pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Use in adults (including the elderly):
• For a sudden (acute) episode, take 2 capsules of Imodium (4 mg loperamide hydrochloride) once, then 1 capsule of Imodium (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each stool. If you have a solid or hard stool or if 24 or without stool, discontinue treatment
• For long-lasting (chronic) diarrhoea, the exact dose will be determined together with your doctor. But: Do not take more than 8 Imodium capsules (16 mg loperamide hydrochloride) within 24 hours
• Use in children over 6 years:
• For a sudden (acute) episode, take 1 capsule of Imodium (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) once, then continue with 1 capsule of Imodium (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each stool
• If the child has a solid or hard stool or if 24 hours pass without a stool, stop the treatment
• For long-lasting (chronic) diarrhoea, the exact dose will be determined together with your doctor. But: never administer more than the recommended dose per day and per kilogram of your child's body weight!

Contraindications:

Do not use Imodium:

• if there is blood in the stool or if you have a fever
• if you have inflammation of the lower abdomen (eg ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis as a result of antibiotic use)
• if your doctor has told you that slowing down your bowel movements should be avoided, for example if you are constipated or your abdomen is bloated
• if you are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride or any of the other components of this medicine
• if you have any doubts, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Precautions:

• Duration of treatment: 2 days. Adhere to the doses and duration of treatment
• Fatigue, dizziness or drowsiness may accompany diarrhea, so caution is advised when driving or using machinery
• This medicine contains loperamide hydrochloride and can be obtained without a prescription
• It is recommended to carefully read the leaflet or the information on the packaging
• If unpleasant manifestations occur, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:

• Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine
• If you are pregnant or think you may be, you must inform your doctor, who will decide if you can use Imodium, or your pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine
• It is recommended not to use Imodium if you are breast-feeding, as small amounts of Imodium may pass into your milk.

Driving vehicles and using machines:

• Imodium has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines
• Fatigue, dizziness or drowsiness can accompany diarrhea, therefore it is advisable to be cautious when driving vehicles or using machinery.
