Diclofenac gel 5%, 45 g, Terapia

Diclofenac Terapia contains the active substance diclofenac, which belongs to the group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

It is specially designed to be absorbed through the skin by massage.

Diclofenac Terapia is used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation and swelling in painful conditions affecting joints and muscles.

Indications:

It can be used to treat the following conditions

• Adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over: joint and muscle injuries (e.g. sprains, dislocations, bruises, back pain, sports injuries); tendonitis (e.g. lateral epicondylitis)
• Adults only (18 years and over): mild arthritis of the knees or fingers.

Composition:

• The active substance is diclofenac sodium
• One gram of gel contains 50 mg of diclofenac sodium
• The other ingredients are: hydroxyethylcellulose, propylene glycol, ethyl alcohol 96%, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate (E 218), purified water.

How to use:

• Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist
• For adults and adolescents over 14 years of age: Diclofenac Therapy is intended for administration to the skin. Apply Diclofenac Therapy 3 or 4 times a day to the painful area
• If the pain or swelling persists for 7 days or gets worse, contact your doctor.

Do not use Diclofenac gel for more than:

• Adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over: 2 weeks for joint and muscle injuries (e.g. sprains, strains, bruises) or tendonitis
• Adults only (aged 18 years and over): 3 weeks for pain associated with arthritis
• A longer treatment may be recommended by your doctor
• Use in children and adolescents: There is insufficient data on the safety and efficacy of administration in children and adolescents under 14 years of age. In adolescents aged 14 years and over, if this medicine is needed to treat pain for more than 7 days or if symptoms worsen, the patient/parents of the adolescent are advised to consult a doctor.

If you use more Diclofenac Therapy than you should:

• If Diclofenac gel: is administered, it is unlikely that an overdose will occur. In this case, however, the area on which the gel has been applied should be washed with plenty of water
• If a quantity of gel is accidentally swallowed, the quantity of diclofenac may be sufficient to cause symptoms of overdose (for example, 100 g of gel contains the equivalent of 5000 mg of diclofenac sodium). Contact your doctor or the nearest hospital emergency department immediately.

If you forget to use Diclofenac gel:

• You can apply it when you remember and then continue as usual
• Do not apply a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you stop taking Diclofenac gel:

• Use it only when necessary
• You can stop treatment as soon as you feel better
• If you have any further questions about this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Possible side effects:

• Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
• Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): rash, itching, redness or tingling of the skin
• Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): bullous dermatitis; dry skin; allergic skin reactions with localised itching or redness
• Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): rash accompanied by blisters with pus; allergic skin reactions; asthma attacks, especially in patients with an allergy to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; swelling of the face, tongue, throat; the skin may be more sensitive to the sun. Possible symptoms are itchy sunburn, swelling and blisters. (Do not expose yourself to the sun while using Diclofenac gel Terapia)
• Other general adverse reactions common to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. digestive, hepatic and renal) may occur in case of increased absorption of diclofenac sodium through the skin, in the following situations: large amount of gel applied, large application surface, presence of skin lesions, long duration of treatment and use of occlusive dressings.
