European firefly (Euphrasia officinalis) is a plant with small white flowers with scalloped edges, yellow spots and a black center. Eyebright has traditionally been used to treat all types of eye ailments, and the first records of its use date back to the Middle Ages, when dried eyebright was often combined with other herbs. Later, it was also used to produce a special type of beer, which, when used in small quantities, was used to improve eyesight. EYE ALIGNMENT The Eyebright plant contains phytonutrients that may be helpful in reducing symptoms of eye discomfort. The aucubine found in eyebright has an anti-inflammatory effect, soothing tired and irritated eyes, and the tannins have an astringent effect, helping to dry secretions and soothe inflammation of the mucous membranes. This is especially useful in case of inflammation of the eyelids or conjunctiva.
