Description
- The drug has a depolymerizing effect on mucopolysaccharides and DNA fibers, thus dissolving all types of mucus that are responsible for mucus viscosity.
- N-acetylcysteine acts as an antioxidant and thus supports the body's defense mechanisms.
- After oral administration, SOLMUCOL® is practically completely absorbed. It reaches the maximum concentration in the serum one hour after administration. The distribution of N-acetylcysteine is good. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys in the form of inactive metabolites
Dosage
In acute diseases:
- Adults and children from 6 years: 10 ml of syrup 3 times a day
- Children from 2 - 6 years: 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day
- Children under 2 years: 2.5 ml of syrup 3 times a day
In the long-term treatment of chronic inflammation of the bronchi and bronchiectasis:
- 10 ml of syrup twice a day
- Therapy should last 3-6 months
In cystic fibrosis:
- Adults and children from 6 years: 10 ml of syrup 3 times a day
- Children from 2 - 6 years: 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day
- Children under 2 years: 2.5 ml of syrup 3 times a day
Mode of use
The syrup is taken after a meal and drunk with water. The included measuring cup is used to take the medicine.
Preparing the syrup:
1. Remove the ring cover. 2. Screw the cap down. Thus, the powder in the container connected to the plug passes into the liquid. 3. Stir the solution briefly until the powder is completely dissolved.
Warning
The medicine can be used during pregnancy only on the recommendation of the doctor. The drug is not recommended for use during breastfeeding. Patients with asthma may experience bronchospasm. It is necessary to avoid the simultaneous administration of a centrally acting antitussive, e.g. codeine or dextromethorphan.
With the simultaneous use of penicillins, tetracyclines and cephalosporins, a mutual reaction occurs, so it is necessary to separate individual applications with a time interval of 1 hour. The medicine contains alcohol, sodium and sodium benzoate. The small amount of alcohol in this medicine has no noticeable effects. After reconstitution, consume within 14 days.
Adverse effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Solmucol is generally well tolerated. Rarely, stomach upset, headache, dizziness or hives may occur; bronchospasm (narrowing of the bronchi) in asthmatics.
Other than stopping administration, no special measures are required.
