Description
Pikopil is a drug in the form of oral drops containing an active substance - sodium picosulfate, belonging to the group of laxatives. The solution is indicated for the short-term relief of symptoms associated with chronic or recurrent constipation. Pikopil oral drops can be used in both adults and children aged 4 years and older.
Sodium picosulfate is a topical substance with a laxative effect. This compound is broken down by the bacterial flora of the large intestine and stimulates the mucous membrane of both the large intestine and the rectum. This leads to accelerated colonic peristalsis and increased water and electrolyte content in the lumen of the large intestine, resulting in faster defecation, shorter intestinal transit time, and looser stool consistency. Sodium picosulfate does not affect the processes of digestion and absorption of calories and essential nutrients in the small intestine.
