Now ^® Betaine HCl is a food supplement that contains betaine hydrochloride. Each capsule, suitable for vegans, contains 648 mg of betaine HCl enriched with the addition of a digestive enzyme - protease to supplement the daily diet of adults.

Betaine is an organic chemical compound that occurs naturally in some plants, animals and microorganisms. Betaine is a derivative of glycine - the simplest protein amino acid. It is sometimes called trimethylglycine (TMG). Betaine contributes to maintaining the proper metabolism of homocysteine*, an intermediate product produced in living organisms by the transformation of the protein-forming amino acid methionine.

Protease is a type of enzyme in the hydrolase class, which is responsible for breaking down proteins into smaller fragments, i.e. amino acids. The capsules of the American brand Now ^® use acid protease obtained from the cultivation of Aspergillus niger fungi.
