Magnerot® is a drug administered in tablets containing a unique combination of magnesium and orotic acid (magnesium orotate). These magnesium tablets are used for muscle and heart disorders caused by a lack of magnesium, such as leg cramps, tetany (muscle convulsions) or angina pectoris (chest pain caused by temporarily insufficient blood flow to the heart).

Magnerot® is also used in the case of magnesium deficiency as a result of unilateral feeding or the use of various drugs (contraceptive and diuretic preparations or laxatives), for alcoholism or for the insufficient compensation of the increased magnesium requirement (breastfeeding, increased level of stress).

The drug is used during pregnancy (with the risk of premature birth, preeclampsia), in certain heart rhythm disorders caused mainly by an overdose of digitalized glycosides and in atherosclerosis (hardening of blood vessels and arteries).

What is orotic acid?

Orotic acid is a carrier to which magnesium binds. Orotic acid is a natural biological substance, the body's own, also contained in milk and colostrum. Therefore, it represents a kind of "physiological carrier" for magnesium. Thanks to this connection, the absorption of magnesium improves, but also of other important minerals (calcium, potassium, sodium...) and metals (iron, copper, manganese, zinc...) in the digestive tract. In addition, it supports the creation of substances with a high energy content, thus affecting the improvement of energy production in the cells of the body.

The tablets are swallowed with a small amount of liquid. The duration of treatment is at least 6 weeks. Magnerot can also be used long-term.

Adverse effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

High doses of magnesium can cause softening of the stool or diarrhea, these symptoms can be eliminated by reducing the daily dose.

High doses of magnesium can slow the heart rate or cause irregular heart activity or insufficient blood circulation in the peripheral (peripheral) vessels.

An overdose of magnesium can cause loss of consciousness or muscle weakness.
