Ibuvit D3 4000 IU is a medicine, not a food supplement, which contains the active substance - cholecalciferol in a dose of 4000 IU per capsule. The drug is indicated for the prevention of vitamin D deficiency and conditions resulting from vitamin D deficiency in obese adults*.

When is vitamin D deficiency diagnosed in the body?

Vitamin D deficiency is defined as a serum concentration of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25(OH)D) <20 ng/ml (<50 nmol/l). In turn, the target concentration for the optimal effect of vitamin D is defined as 30 to 50 ng/ml (75 to 125 nmol/l).

When is it worth taking vitamin D medication?

In Poland, sufficient sun exposure is possible only in the summer months (May to September) and requires at least 15 minutes of sun exposure per day between 10:00 and 15:00, with uncovered forearms and legs, without use creams with UV filters. The preventive intake of vitamin D is recommended in the months of insufficient exposure to sunlight, i.e. from October to April. People who spend long periods of time indoors, including office workers and the elderly, and in most cases the general population during the winter months, are at risk of vitamin D deficiency.

It belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins, which is why Ibuvit capsules with a simple composition are filled with saffron oil and cholecalciferol, identical to vitamin D produced in the human body.

Vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium from the intestines and reduces its excretion by the kidneys, which supports bone formation. Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets (disturbed bone mineralization in children) and osteomalacia (insufficient bone mineralization in adults).
