Bloating can be described as a sensation of an inflated balloon in the abdomen. It is a frequently reported symptom and is sometimes associated with distension. The resistant foam bubbles in the intestine strongly retain the gases, and they can no longer be released. Gases build up as others are added during the digestion process. The consequence: bloating and a feeling of fullness up to colic-type pain.

Espi FORTE

140 mg, soft capsules

1 soft gelatin capsule contains simethicone 140 mg.

The other components are: gelatin, 85% glycerol, quinoline yellow (E 104), red iron oxide (E 172).

Espi FORTE is available in packs of 20 capsules.

1. WHAT IS ESPI FORTE AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR:

Espi FORTE , a medical device in the form of soft gelatin capsules,

for oral administration, contains simethicone, a substance with antifoam properties.

Espi FORTE is used in:

- symptomatic treatment of gastrointestinal disorders caused by gas accumulation; for example, bloating (meteorism) or flatulence, feeling of fullness.

- preparation for diagnostic examinations; for example, radiography, ultrasound and endoscopy.

2. BEFORE YOU TAKE Espi FORTE:

Do not use Espi FORTE in case of known hypersensitivity to simethicone or any of the other components of Espi FORTE .

If you have undergone gastrointestinal surgery, Espi FORTE will be administered by the doctor only after a careful evaluation of the benefit-risk ratio.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

In general, simethicone can be used without reservations during pregnancy and breastfeeding, because it is excreted unchanged from the intestine and is not absorbed in the body. However, it is recommended to consult a doctor before use.

Use in children:

This product should not be given to children under 14 years of age. Other forms of presentation are available for this age group to achieve the desired dose.

Use in diabetics:

Espi FORTE does not contain sugar and can be used by diabetics.

Each capsule = 1.0 kJ equivalent to 0 units of bread (1 unit of bread being equal to 12 g of digestible carbohydrates).

Use with medicines:

There are no known interactions of Espi FORTE with drugs.

3. HOW TO TAKE Espi FORTE:

Always take Espi FORTE as recommended in these instructions for use. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

This dosage is only applicable if your doctor has not advised you to take another dose. For best results, always keep the instructions for use.

Usual dosage and method of use

For gastrointestinal disorders caused by gas accumulation:

The daily dose should not exceed 5 capsules (equivalent to 700 mg simethicone).

Espi FORTE should be taken during or after a meal. The capsules are swallowed unchewed, with sufficient liquid (for example, 1 glass of water).

Take Espi FORTE until the discomfort subsides, but not for more than 30 days. If your symptoms get worse or don't improve, you should see a doctor to identify both the cause of your discomfort and a possible medical condition that needs treatment.

To prepare for diagnostic examinations:

If you take more Espi FORTE than you should:

The active substance, simethicone, disintegrates the foam in the gastrointestinal tract in a purely physical way and is biologically and chemically inactive. Therefore, intoxication as a result of overdose is practically excluded.

If you forget to take Espi FORTE, continue using it without changing the dose.

4. POSSIBLE ADVERSE REACTIONS

The side effects reported to date and associated with the use of Espi FORTE have no clinical significance.

However, if you experience any side effects, contact your doctor or the manufacturer mentioned in these instructions for use.

5. HOW TO STORE Espi FORTE:

• Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
• Do not use this product after the expiry date written on the box.
• Storage conditions: Store in a dry place, at temperatures below 25 °C.
